afresh now, the answer is Yes You Can!. CAT is roughly 15 weeks away and that's enough time
to bell the CAT. All you need to have is a good strategy in place. So if you're gonna start preparing for CAT now, you are good to go. Don't panic. And if this is
your first attempt at CAT, remember the key is to stay calm. One who manages to remain calm
while taking the exam will be able to nail it.
Every year, few fundamental rules remain the same for preparing for CAT. We are listing some
of the fundamental and essential ground rules.
1. Acing the Verbal Ability Section: Read, Read and Read
This section can have at least 4-5 RC passages along with a few para jumbles and other
grammatical ability questions. The time allocated for the section is 1 hour. Hence it is very
important for you to have a good reading speed. When we say good reading speed, we mean
that you are able to COMPREHEND the details while reading quickly. The only known way to
increase reading speed is by reading more and more.
Hence, make it a habit to read a newspaper for at least 1 hour daily. We suggest reading the
the editorial section of a good English newspaper like The Hindu or Mint as reading these will
increase your speed and improve your knowledge about current affairs, which would give you
an edge during interviews.
2. Get your Fundamental cleared:
Looking at the course outline can be overwhelming, and you can fall into the trap of rushing
through different topics.
It's already August but the good news is that you have got enough time. Focus on first getting
your basic concepts clear because if you're clear with concepts, you'll take lesser time to solve
the questions, and hence, you will have more time in hand to practice a wide variety of topics.
3. Practice a lot
One of the concern areas of students is that either they are not able to finish the section, or they
panic so much that they end up making silly mistakes. The only solution to this is Practice. Your
priority should be to practice as much as you can. With more practice, you will be able to gain
speed and understand a few shortcuts by yourself. Focussing only on speed creates a sense of
stress and, hence, its better to just focus on practicing with as much time as it takes, and within
few days, you'll realize you're taking lesser time to solve questions.
4. Mock Tests are the most important.
Do not underestimate the power of mocks and the role that mocks play in getting you a good
CAT score. You have 17 weeks left till CAT, so you should strategize to take somewhere 15-20
mocks before the D-Day. Begin today to see which are your strong and weak areas. Take at
least one mock in a week. Set the clock and give the mock religiously as if it is your actual
exam. Try different strategies and find out what works best for you. Analyzing mock is as
important as taking one. A mock test that has not been analyzed is a wasted one. Practice all
the wrong and unattempted questions.
Remember these four rules and apply them. And you'll be able to score well in CAT. The only
rule to success is being consistent with what you take. Hence, be consistent in reading,
practicing, and taking mocks.
So, without wasting any more time, start today and keep up your spirits. Managers Adda is

you ace the exam and take you closer to your dream B-School. Stay tuned, and All the Best!
