What it's like to work as an HR?

MA: Were you inclined towards HR from the beginning or there is a particular reason you chose this field?

Vibhasha: Empathy is one of my greatest strengths. I like to speak my mind and like to challenge the status quo and take a tougher stand when required. A combination of both skills gives me a balanced approach towards understanding the 'Human resources'. I chose HR because it gives me an opportunity to influence the innumerable aspects of an organization. There is no bigger feeling of gratification than when I can unleash the real potential of the people and help them grow.

MA: How has the journey been, from choosing the subjects in B-School to now working in the field?

Vibhasha:  It is quite fascinating to see various concepts, models, and organizational behavior at play in real. Though I am yet to explore everything that I studied in MBA. Also, I feel Indian organizations (except few) are yet to mature as far as HR is concerned.

MA: Tell us about your current job role?

Vibhasha: Currently, I am a sales HRBP. I handle the employee lifecycle of 442 sales employees consisting of recruitment, talent development, attrition management, employee engagement grievance addressable, and exit management.

MA: Apart from that what other roles are offered in the HR domain?

Vibhasha: Corporate HR, L&D specialist, Talent management specialist, COE, etc

MA: What do you think are the qualities that are needed for someone who wants to excel in this field?

Vibhasha: Empathetic skills, Decision making, communication skills, understanding of human and organizational behavior.

MA: What skills should the aspiring HR students develop to grab their dream roles/jobs?

Vibhasha: Good communication and listening skills for cracking GD, solving case studies, keeping updated with the new HR trends. For interviews, I would suggest thoroughly preparing for the common interview questions, preferably prepare an elevator pitch for themselves, try to answer all the questions using a STAR method, and most importantly be honest and genuine with their answers.

MA: What message would you like to give to the HR enthusiast out there?

Vibhasha: Make the most of the MBA, keep concepts clear, knowing about things brings a lot of confidence in self. Be thorough of your fav subjects. Participate in B School competitions. Keep yourself updated about the new trends in the industry.
