Have you ever wondered how it is really like being part of India’s top B-Schools, or what is the student’s everyday life at such an Institute? You take CAT and then go through the further process which includes GD-PI or WAT-PI. Getting into IIM is a rigorous process it requires a lot of hard work. But what after you get into IIM. How’s life there? How is the pressure there? Is it similar to our graduation life or something changes? Some of us think that getting into an IIM will result in getting a good company with good package. But believe me, spending 2 years at IIM is tougher than
cracking CAT. Once you enter into IIM you will feel overwhelmed but once you settle you realize you will be now competing against the brightest mind. You will find people who will be equally talented as you were like they were topper in their schools, colleges. MBA is all about peer to peer learning. Once you step into the classroom you find totally a different way of teaching, there will be case-based learning, class participation and sacrosanct deadlines. "IIM life" is hectic, tiring but it is never
a dull one.
MBA at all the IIMs is a complete residential course where accommodation is provided to all no matter if your home is just 2 km away from the campus. It creates a bond between the students as they form groups for assignments that end up into long term friendships. You will have classes till late at night, midnight deadlines for the assignments. Once you start your semester you find your interest in clubs and committees which you can be a part of and all of this experience comes with
great learning and exposure. Various clubs and committees will keep you engaged throughout the year. Every IIM club has different selection criteria.
And then there is one thing that you should really take care of, that is your Attendance. It is a crucial part of helping you succeed at IIM and that is the reason you will see it is mandatory in all the IIMs. You should be mentally present in the class and before coming to class you are expected to go through pre-readings as most of the courses are case-based and one can only discuss the case if he has some idea about it. You can not be late into the class otherwise you will not be allowed to enter. You will see students fighting for class participation marks, that is a whole new experience and surely it helps us to put our ideas and counter to what others are saying.
All of this rigorous schedule need us to stay healthy as you do not want to miss any of the class. So If you want to succeed in such a challenging academic environment, you have to make sure that you’re planning for a balanced lifestyle. Eat well and on time and try to manage your sleep hours as well, you might not find that much time but if you manage your time properly then you have ample amount of time to have a sound sleep.
