I still remember it very
clearly, “you have received a new mail”, only this time the mail was not just
a brand promotion but said, “Congratulation for getting selected in IIM” and
that was it, I knew my life was about to change!
Cut to June, after
deliberating between various colleges, I decided to join IIM Visakhapatnam and
landed at the Vizag airport and as most would say, that they absolutely fell in
love with the city but for me, it was quite different.
Having spent quite a few
memorable years in another coastal town of Manipal for my BTech (yes, another
engineer) and then in the amazing city of Bangalore (an IT professional,
another cliché), there was something missing! But before I could even get a
hang of the city, the new life, or the new people, came a series of deadlines,
meetings, late nights, and yes, of course, the first week.
I remember waking up for
an 8o’clock class (reminiscing the good old UG days were falling asleep in
class was normal) while having slept at 6 the previous day all because I was working
on this assignment which was due. Although I had heard a lot about the MBA
life, when it came to living it, my experience and journey was something
very different from what I had imagined or read about.
Juggling between multiple
assignments, competitions, placements, and studies, the one thing that I missed
the most was enjoying each moment. There was a constant hustle to prove
yourself, to become better, to get CV points, or just to be something. Amidst
all this the one thing that I least prioritized was (no points to guess) me and
(another no brainer) my loved ones.
Every now and then, we
are so busy becoming a better professional, competing with others, or just
trying to do something that we forget to utilize these two years as an
experience to better ourselves professionally and not lose a grip of who you
are.
So, amongst all the
preparation for jobs, internships, winning competitions, or acing those
classes, take some time out and focus on yourself because everything else is
just a part but it's you who has to make the most of this journey. It's you who
defines these small moments into bigger moments and takes on the world. It's you
and always you who has the power to change anything and everything that comes
your way!
Sooner or later you’ll
realize, there’s nothing more important than your peace and when you put your
peace above becoming something, that is when you realize who you really are and
that there’s nothing but you and only
your quench to learn between where you are right now and where you want to
reach! Never forget that you are one step closer to your goal today than you
were yesterday and, at this moment, you are the best version of yourself!
Till then, take every
failure or success with a pinch of salt (and a tablespoon of learning), keep
growing, keep hustling but never stop making yourself and the ones who stood by
you through everything a priority!
