"Pratyusha Peesapat just completed her MBA from NMIMS, Mumbai. She did her summers in PepsiCo where she worked on the BTL activities of an energy drink brand called Sting. She then moved on to the best journey of her MBA Life, HUL LIME. Right now, She is working full time as a Management Trainee - Strategic Alliances in a New-age Housing Finance Committee"
MA: How was your HUL LIME experience? From the first submission to becoming nationalist, and finally becoming the second runner up.
Pratyusha: My first year MBA has been extremely hectic. Between clubs and committee interviews, summers, academic quizzes, group assignments, we literally had no time to sleep. But that's the period in my life where I learned prioritization, time management, and the fact that not everyone will like you and that's okay.
I really think there is no one word to justify my LIME experience. LIME was a competition that I knew even before joining a B-school. It is a competition that holds a legacy while maintaining relevance in today's world. We always worked with a bigger picture in mind and we faced our fair share of struggles. For example, on the day of our campus final, one of our teammates was unavailable until just 10 mins before the start of the competition. I and my other teammate pitched in and worked on the final presentation alone. Semi-finals were another story altogether. Only 4 out of 22 teams were going to get selected and I think it was our sheer determination and the fact that we kept ourselves grounded which brought us there. There was a social case for National Finals which tested our understanding of Sales and Marketing in a whole different sense. Looking back, the journey has been extremely fulfilling and enriching.
MA: What do you think is the most important thing to crack a case study competition?
Pratyusha: One thing where most of the teams fail is to connect the dots. Most teams do good research, have quality insights. But bringing all of it together and representing it in a way such that it is a nice good flow to understand is also very important.
MA: Do you think the team that you participate with matters a lot?
Pratyusha: Of course. A good team with participation from all the members will bring out a much comprehensive and advanced solution because of the added perspectives. Also, a time like this brings out strengths in people who complement each other. Having said that, this does not mean there will be an exact divided by 3 sorts of a contribution. One or two people inevitably work more than the others and that's okay.
MA: What are your advice for the students preparing for HUL LIMEcompetition this year?
Pratyusha: Please stick to the basics. Do NOT compromise on Primary research. And spend some time on the submission template vis a vis just dumping things there at the last minute.
