MA: What do you think are the most important knowledge areas for any SIP interview in general?

Aartika: I believe that both hard skills and soft skills play a very important role during the summer internship selection process. First and foremost, is communication skills which acts as a base for networking, planning, and organization. Theoretically, one should be well versed in the fundamentals of marketing and accounting taught and should be able to apply them practically. Awareness about the industry and the company is a must. Be creative, passionate, problem solver, and do justice to your CV.

MA: How was your experience of summer internship selection?

Aartika: Being a biotechnology graduate and getting an internship from Cipla Health Ltd., one of the leading consumer healthcare subsidiary of Cipla was nothing less than a dream come true for me. I got selected for the internship through summer placements at our campus. The selection process comprised of a group discussion and an interview round. The group discussion was more like a case study and the topic was one of the recent ones. I mentioned the points which were relevant to the topic while listening to other members of the group. Next was the interview round, since I had work experience, I was mostly asked situational questions based on my experience followed by some marketing related concepts.

MA: How was your summer internship experience?

Aartika: I still remember when we all were sitting inside a cubicle after our three days induction process got over and waiting for our projects to get started. I was placed in the marketing department and got an opportunity to work on a live marketing campaign for one of their leading cough brands. The project title seemed to be simple but it was filled with a lot of new challenges and expectations. I had a wonderful team to work with and people were friendly. The whole journey was enriching and filled with the experience of meeting new people, working with different teams, and sharing their learning. With the freedom to explore, think out of the box, and implement things in the best way one can, I enjoyed the learning process.

MA: What are some tips you would like to give to the batch of 2020-22 for SIP preparation?

Aartika: If indeed you want to bag the role you should know everything about the job i.e. from company to roles, responsibilities, and people. You should be thorough with your resume. Research, research, and research a lot, read the newspaper daily as it will you to ace through the process. Be honest with yourself, confident, and never try to lie during the interviews. Also, institutes allow students to learn and prepare through a peer review system wherein seniors and alumni help their juniors to prepare for the process. Try giving mock interviews with your peers and prepare all the basic HR questions well. Make use of these opportunities, and, do not hesitate to take help.
